According to recent reports as group of MPs from the UK are putting pressure on mobile operators in a bid to try and stop further delays to the 4G spectrum auction and get the UK moving when it comes to 4G networks.
As many people are only too well aware, there have been many delays with the 4G spectrum auction in the UK, leading to businesses and consumers suffering in terms of being able to access high quality mobile internet services. Many have expressed concern and frustration over the continued delays with the auction and whilst other countries are already enjoying the benefits of 4G auctions the UK is still waiting for the initial auction of spectrum for these services.
However, UK mobile network operators have now come under fire from a group of MPs who want to see an end to the continued delays with the spectrum auction so that 4G services can finally start being rolled out in the UK, which has been left lagging behind many other countries. The call for an end to these delays has come from MPs from the Commons Culture, Media and Sport select committee.
One of the MPs said: “Ofcom has had a very difficult job adjudicating between competing and polarised interests, and we are concerned that constant disagreement and special pleading from the four mobile network operators appears to have further delayed the spectrum auction.”
He added: “We believe that the basic rules for the auction which Ofcom has laid down are sensible and fair, and that further delays will result in the UK falling further behind in this vital area. The auction needs to proceed as soon as possible.”
