It has been claimed that the 4G spectrum auction for the UK, which was planned for the first quarter of 2012, could now be delayed once again due to delays with the auction design.
Many people who are keen to see 4G mobile networks rolled out across the UK have become increasingly frustrated by the problems that have been experienced in the UK with regards to the auction of 4G spectrum. This spectrum needs to be auctioned off to providers so that they can start rolling out their 4G services on a widespread basis, but already a number of problems, legal challenges, and delays have been experienced.
It has now been announced that there could be yet another delay with the 4G spectrum auction in the UK, which was planned for the first quarter of 2012. According to reports the UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, is expecting a delays of several months, which would result in the auction sliding back to the middle of next year rather than the beginning of the year.
Ofcom has stated that it was expecting the auction design to be completed in around one month’s time. However, it has said that it now seems likely that this will not be completed until the end of this year, which will then result in a knock on effect on the auction date, which will also be delayed.
Ofcom has also said that it will be releasing a statement once the auction design has been completed at which point it can give a clearer indication of when the 4G spectrum auction will be scheduled for.
