Mobile network operator O2 has recently revealed that it is trialling 4G LTE in London, with the high speed mobile connections to be trialled until June 2012.
There are many people and businesses across the UK that are growing more and more impatient due to the seemingly endless wait for 4G mobile broadband networks to be rolled out. Many are now becoming frustrated by the reduced quality of 3G networks, which are now unable to cope with the high level of demand for mobile broadband and internet services. However, continued delays with the 4G spectrum auction has meant that the rollout of these networks in the UK keeps getting put off.
UK mobile network operator, O2, has now confirmed that it is going to be trialling 4G LTE mobile networks in London until June 2012. The trial will be running across London with 40 square kilometres of the capital that will be served by 4G masts that will be erected by O2, of which there will be twenty five.
Ronan Dunne, Chief Executive Officer of Telefónica UK, said: “Today’s launch of the UK’s first 4G London trial network demonstrates our commitment to delivering 4G to our customers at the earliest opportunity. The work we are doing now will lay the foundations for our commercial 4G network when it launches in the UK.”
According to reports around one thousand people will be taking part in the trials, which are said to be offering mobile download speeds of up to 100Mbps. Participants in the trial will be getting a Samsung 4G dongle so that they are able to receive the high speed service that the trial is set to offer.
